Things to know

Local processing means performance depends on your device and browser. A few tips for a smoother session:

Requires a modern Chromium browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave or Arc 113+. It relies on WebGPU and the File System Access API, which Firefox and Safari do not support yet.
Brave disables the File System Access API by default; enable it at brave://flags/#file-system-access-api and relaunch before first use.
Large files (4K, long videos) eat memory — close other heavy tabs first.
Don't close or refresh the tab during export, or progress is lost.
Not supported on mobile browsers — a desktop Chromium browser is required for the full editing workflow.
Codec support (H.264 / H.265 / VP9 / AV1) for export depends on your browser's available hardware/software encoders.

No. All editing, rendering and export happen in your browser. Your footage never leaves your device — which is exactly why it's privacy-safe.

Why is it completely free? How is it funded?

Because there are no servers storing or rendering your video, there's no ongoing bandwidth, storage or compute cost. FreeVideoEditor is a self-hosted deployment of the open-source FreeCut project — the only real cost is static hosting. This page carries a small amount of clearly labeled ad space (marked "Ads"), placed to run alongside the content rather than inside the editor itself, plus the occasional related link or sponsorship. None of that touches the core editing features, which stay free and won't move behind a paywall.

Do I need to log in or sign up?

No. The page works the moment you open it. There is no account system and we don't collect personal information.

Does the free tier have a watermark, length or feature cap?
